I needed punishment

So, I rode again tonight. I’ve been slacking on it. Technically I rode with Corey on Monday, but that was more of a leisurely ride plus stopping for a big burger and frozen custard. Anyway, since it’s been a while for a real ‘fitness’ type ride, I decided it was time for a bit of punishment. I started doing my normal 5 mile loop, but when I got to Satellite Blvd & Smithtown Road where I’d normally turn towards the house, I kept going. I wasn’t actually feeling sufficiently tired yet, though I was definately getting there. I thought to myself, “I’ll go at least until Lawrenceville-Suwanee Rd. It’s downhill most of the way from there if I’m exhausted”.

But then I got to Lville-Suwanee, and that STILL wasn’t enough. I’m not sure WHY it wasn’t enough, my legs were definitely running low on power by then. Even still, I kept going. I went down Satellite a bit further and then turned down a narrow unlit side street that cuts over towards Buford Hwy. It’s quite scary and yet thrilling to be flying downhill on a bicycle at 30+ mph and not being able to see where the heck you’re going. By the time I hit Main Street my legs were about shot. Tiny little hills were suddenly REALLY tough and I was still a couple miles from home. Punishment accomplished, now excuse me while go pass out in the shower…

The route:

I’ve been lazy

Okay, so I’ve been lazy the last few days. I didn’t actually get up to ride. I did end up putting in 6 miles yesterday, but it was pretty lame and I’m not even going to log it as a real ride.

On Sunday I was taking Corey home and got a flat tire near his house. “No problem”, I thought. I’d been smart and checked that the jack, wrench and everything was in the car when I bought it. Unfortunately I neglected to check that the spare actually had air in it. To make matters worse, I found out that the lug wrench that came with the car doesn’t fit inside the lug nut holes of the aftermarket wheels that are on it. BAH! It all worked out eventually with some greatly appreciated help from Corey’s stepdad.

And so… yesterday morning I drove the car, with it’s teeny little spare, up to Kauffman Tire. I took the bike with me, and rode it back home. It’s just less than 3 miles, and mostly downhill. Yesterday afternoon, I rode the bike back – 3miles and mostly uphill. Meh. I need to do more.

On a completely unrelated note, I finally got fed up with the heat being an excuse for not getting outside. This weekend I AM going hiking, or camping. If it’s hiking then I also want to get back to a Wheelhopper Hash. It’s been about 3 years, and the last hash I was at was my naming, they probably think that’s what ran me off. I blame buying the motorcycle and general laziness.

And now a random picture that I saw on someone’s blog…

It's not a bug. It's a feature.

hint:  think of it as a Bug,  not a Beetle.  and it’s a geek joke,  so you may not understand it.

Morning Workout

So I started getting up in the morning and cycling to get my daily cardio in. I’m also trying tracking my training log, though I don’t always have complete information on some days. See here if you want to check out the log.

Anyway… my goal is 230 lbs. When I reach it, I buy myself a new road bicycle. Probably a touring bike, like a Trek 520, Novara Randonee, or perhaps a Surly Long Haul Trucker. I haven’t decided yet, we’ll see when I hit 230.

Actually, it’s only a ‘daily’ workout in theory. So far I’ve done it twice last week and once this week so far. This is the route I take:
